A Room Of His Own

We converted our storage closet into a pint-sized bedroom for Leo! Before he was born, we didn't think it could be done, but ridiculous rents (more than double what we pay), a love of our neighborhood (a huge playground one block away!), and our amenable landlord (we had to repair the window and find somewhere to put those bikes) pushed our ambition. We rented a storage space, packed it to the gills, and voila! we now have a 2-bedroom apartment!

BEFORE:This closet had a drafty window that we always kept closed, and stored 5 bikes and a whole lot of our stuff! Most of it we were able to put in storage (a 10 minute drive away), and some of it we found creative spaces for in our apartment (my yarn is being stored in a suitcase, for example).

DURING: Empty closet with shelf scars.
DURING: All painted! And a newly repaired window.
Clouds on the ceiling and a foggy SF skyline over the picture rail.

AFTER: The crib and changing table fit perfectly along one wall. Also, I made the curtain! It has little cars and city buildings on it.
Friends and a diaper pail. The rug is supposed to look like grass, and there's sky above!
Every room should have a plant in it! This plant I have owned the longest of any of our plants. It is a money tree, a birthday gift from my hairdresser (!) in 2003. My friend Nora took care of it when we were in Asia and gave it back to me when she moved to Chicago a few years ago.

He likes it! Leo slept really well in his crib on the first night.

  2. Wow that looks so great! I never would have guessed that everything fit so well in there!! Especially since when we were there last time there was barely enough room for our suitcase! :)
